Fall Festival, Haunted Houses and Book Club

I had a killer weekend!  We went to the Fall Festival Carnival. Last year, we rode the rides, but this year the rides were everything that spins which was not in our cards. We did go and listen to the band. The first band was a throwback to the Beatles! We got tagged for the bar and sat in a chair sipping drinks while listening to the music and enjoying the night.  Then Saturday, we did a little running around. Sue needed our help prearranging the furniture up at the commune. Darlene and Mr. M are on a cruise this week going up the coast and golfing at all the stops. Sounds fun for them, but golf... I like goofy-golf and that's what? An hour long? That's about as much attention I can afford a given task (including watching TV, puzzling, reading, gaming...)  Then we went to Los Angeles Haunted Hayride! That was a blast! I love the ambiance of that place with all the fog and the monsters and the live band (or not so live band, lol inside joke because they were supposed to be dea

Thrift Stores, Hungarian Bell Peppers and Wrapping Gifts

We went to Ventura for the weekend. Main Street has a lot of novelty shops and tons of thrift stores that raise money for organizations. I went into one that was huge and at the very back they had puzzles for $1.00 a piece. I got two wood puzzles and one box that had 3 puzzles, but two of those puzzles are mixed so that'll be fun to unravel, and I got a Disney Pirates of the Caribbean 2-sided puzzle. Great value folks though Emory wasn't too incredibly pleased that I brought home more puzzles.  Ventura has a lot of farmland so there are tons of booths selling fruits and veggies. We stopped on our way back home at one of my favorite spots. They had tons of pumpkins, but we ended up going inside and I found a Hungarian bell pepper that I bought and Apple Pie syrup for waffles. It's hard not to just want to shop, but since we're on a budget, I only bought those two things. I couldn't wait to get home and try the pepper and try the syrup, but Sue wanted to go out for d

Book Club Ladies, Reign of Terror Haunted House and No-Go Job Searches

Book Club Book: "City of the Dead" by Jonathan Kellerman. It took a long time for the library to get this book for pickup. I love our library system especially since I need a new book every month and we just don't have those types of funds for extras. I do enjoy getting to meet with the women though. I learn so many neat things about other people's lives. I want to meet for coffee with some of them outside the group and get to know their personalities a little better, but I'm not sure how to approach it. Interactions aren't that easy for me. I get embarrassed that I might sound immature or that I pronounce my words differently because a lot of people think I'm from another country. I'm not.  We went to a haunted house this past weekend called "Rot House: Reign of Terror." It was one of the best haunted houses. Emory laughed because I didn't expect some of the jump scares, which one would expect in a haunted house, and I ducked and scream

Beach Days, Sports Bars and Spider Bites

We had a great weekend up at the beach. We did take the dogs, and realized a little late that they weren't allowed on the pier, but no one said anything. We got my favorite RACER tea. We walked and walked and it rained on us. Not as badly as it did the time before last, which was good because we didn't bring an umbrella.  We stopped at a sports bar and got a few drinks, chips and watched the game. Colorado was playing. I don't know if Emory actually follows the team or if it was just something to watch. The bar was empty when we arrived at 11:00 am. Yeah, it's a little early to be drinking, but we were having a nice little weekend. The bar quickly got full though and people watching was okay, but so much was going on that it quickly lost its appeal.  I took a really beautiful picture of an orb spider. We've been seeing them all summer in the trees and finally I found it on the internet, surprisingly when I was trying to look up California spiders to match a bite I
