Sick with a Cold, LA Traffic and My New Job

I caught a cold. I'm not sure how because Emory didn't get sick and we share everything so it's something I touched but I can't figure out where that would have been. It's past the yucky stage and now I'm coughing and I can't sleep.  So we're going to Arizona but it'll be quick. We plan to visit the communes, play with the kiddos and drink tons of coffee because that's a long drive.  Speaking of drives, we got our tickets to the LA VegFest and we're not staying up there for the weekend. It's going to be a long day with the drive being almost two hours both ways. On our freeways the drive could literally be hours longer than planned.  We made dinner for the doggies. We cooked up sweet potato and mixed in some peanut butter and added a few extra things. It was a recipe I found on the internet and the dogs seem to love it. Typo is such a fussy eater but she is healthy.  I'm officially a month clean from going to thrift stores and buying

Earthquakes, Storms and Writing

We didn't wake up early enough to exercise before the storm hit on Sunday. We had both the tropical storm blow through and an earthquake. The earthquake was registered as a 5.5. (though there's another chart that says 5.1 so I'm not terribly sure). Thank Goddess for rollers on buildings because our place rolled a lot but nothing fell.  We didn't work out this morning either because of flash flood warnings. I'm so lucky I work from home this week and don't have to go out in the storm.  I'm starting my new job today. I had a meeting on Friday to meet some of the staff but I'll have another meeting on Tuesday to meet everyone else. The manager has really high hopes for me so I want to impress.  I just found out that no one gets hired into this position from the position I originally had because it's a starting point and I jumped two departments to get this spot so I really need to bring my A-Game. I feel like I have a lot to prove. I've learned so m

New Work Position, Hosting Book Club and Writing

I'm starting my new position in a week. I still haven't told my coworkers because I'm waiting for the announcement, but my supervisor did tell my direct coworker that I have the in-office schedule with and that coworker did NOT take it too well. I told her Monday that she had to learn my job and she was excited thinking she would be my assistant... but I wouldn't want her as my assistant. She doesn't respect me and says terribly rude things.  I'm hosting the next book club meeting. I have a few things that we can make that is vegan but only one is gluten-free. I'm hoping that I can get away with hosting a totally vegan party, but I can't really stop people from bringing snacks so hopefully they like what I picked out. It's kind of like a breakfast get-together.  We woke up early to go to the gym. We've been slacking a little bit on this, but I need to drop a few pounds because I refuse to buy new clothes and my clothes are starting to get a litt

Homebodies, Halloween Bar Crawls and Writing

It's been pretty quiet these last few weeks. The Porter commune has been staying busy. Darlene and Mr. M have been golfing. I think Darlene has an all women's tournaments that she goes into. Sue has been busy volunteering. She's getting backpacks ready for the students going to school.  We need to make plans to go to the beach, but it's been nice being homebodies. We've been watching a lot of horror movies lately. I saw that Saw is coming out again, the next chapter, but I won't be seeing it. I don't care too much for torture though I guess zombies (cannibalism) and werewolves are pretty nasty too. I like the supernatural type of horror though we're watching one that I think might be a slasher movie. (Yep... it was.)  Our apartment complex is getting a new roof so it's been extremely loud. They're also cleaning the hallways and asking pet owners not to let their dogs pee in the hall. I believe it! The staircase smells like urine sometimes. Our d
