Handmaid's Tale, Dread and Writing

Should we move back to Arizona? Not sure we really want to move back to a red state though. There are more communes out there than out here. There is only one that we travel between out here in California. The commune out here has two homes, so we sometimes go to both.

We were invited to hang out at the commune in Oxnard, but we had way too much to do, which still didn't really get done, so now we have even more to do in so little time. We have to wash clothes, pack, I need to find EVERYTHING I bought for the different communes. I have things going to a lot of people. What can I say, I love shopping.

This should be good right? So why do I feel so sick?

Every time I watch the news, I'm just full of dread. What can we keep doing? Nothing being done is really making a point. I'm waiting for the sign to jump in and protest again. I'm so upset with how America has turned out. Where did all these horrible people come from?

Ann is reading The Handmaid's Tale. I told my favorite bartender and she said that book hits too close to home and she didn't think I'd like it. Ann said the book was originally published in the 80's. That's nuts! But Ann says it's pretty graphic so it's horror in its own right. She said she watched an interview with the writer and she has a pretty dark personality. I think most people think stoic is dark.

I have a lunch date with Sue. That should be pretty nice. I haven't really been out of the house since we got these little dudes. They have the biggest fit.

Hey, stay safe peeps. I just got a scam call. Ann isn't too happy that I laughed at the people, but their scare tactics were just something I'd seen hundreds of times on YouTube so I really just wasn't falling for the urgency. They called me 7 times in three minutes when I kept hanging up on them. They left me such a funny voicemail and I kept it for Emory to listen too so we could laugh again. NEVER ever!!! Give personal information over the phone. It's a scam!

Ann thinks I should get tickets to the Marvel Ass-semble show that came out from Europe. I really want those tickets, but I think I missed my chance out here in California and I don't think we'll have time in Arizona, because that's where they are playing next.

Writing Update:

B.L. Not getting much done. I have so much to edit on this. I have 11 chapters written and each chapter is almost over 5000 words. I'm cutting that done so now it's roughly double the chapters with the smaller word count. I'm a little worried now that the word count per chapter is pretty low, but it was too long before.

Book Club BBQ, Recluse and Writing

Sue has a book club BBQ so I haven't seen her all week as she's been busy preparing for it. I'm pretty sad about that. She's a really great friend. She brought me dinner when I was stuck at home with my new dogs. I love going to get her wines, but now that she cancelled everything, we haven't had that time to travel up to Solvang. I do want to bring my dogs up to Solvang and see how that goes.

Ann bought me a different type backpack for Sherlock so I have a different way to carry him. I'm a little nervous bringing the dogs to the commune. I think Watson will be fine. He just want to play and chew on toys. Sherlock needs to be with someone and he gets under your feet. He already tripped me. Yeah, it kind of hurt when I went down because I tried catching myself and jolted my bad shoulder. I laughed through the pain because I was more worried about comforting Sherlock. He's okay. It just scared him.

I really think Watson could be trained to be a service dog. I don't faint all the time. It's been a few months now, but I think he'd warn me or something because he's so incredibly observant. Such an incredible boy.

I need to get everyone out of the house though. Just because I'm a recluse, doesn't mean that I want them to be scared leaving the house. We've done a good job taking them out. Watson is getting better at walking on a leash. He realizes that a walk means sniffing and time to mark.

Goddess, my life has been dogs, dogs, dogs....

We're getting ready for Arizona. We still have a few more things to plan and then we're good to go. Emory wants to do this 4 hr hike that is good for beginners. I hope it is because I'm not super strong to pull myself across the river, but it does look like a lot of fun.

We're also going to do a kayak tour in Cottonwood. I hope we have time, because we're really running from one point to the next.

Since this is my birthday season.... (yep!!! a whole season!) we're going to get some vegan/gluten free desserts to take to all the parties. That's going to be such a busy day, because my best friend's theater show is that day so we're going to that. I always send her flowers, so this time I can give them to her in person.

Writing Update:

B.L. I'm now working on chapter 6. There is so much I'm having to delete on this chapter. I want it to not be as kinky as I originally wrote this. It had some major kinks that might need to be softened a little for actual publication. When I wrote this, I wrote this for a certain crowd. Now, I'm cleaning this sucker up. I think I'll have to go through this one more time. Also, I wonder how big the book is actually going to be.

Puzzle Swap, Cat Lady and Writing

So the puzzle exchange in August is a little HOT. It started at 10am. Sue was smart. She brought a sun hat and sunglasses. I forgot my sunblock. I'm really taking a chance here, considering skin cancer is such an easy thing to get in this sunny weather.

I found some kicking puzzles!! There was one puzzle up for grabs that I had on my wish list for three years now. It was part of a "Fund-Raiser" and now I guess it's in all the Target stores. I asked her if she would exchange for it. She said she was waiting for someone to exchange with, but they never showed up so she gave it to me. I asked if she wanted to exchange phone numbers and I could get it back to her when I was done. She said, "Nope! I'll see you again." And that was that.

I found so many cat puzzles that I think pissed Sue off. She took them anyways, and a guitar puzzle because she thought it was super neat. I told her to take what she wanted and she said it was enough for her. She also said she only took like two of the cat puzzles when I found at least four or five. That's okay. She'll probably think about it and grab the others once she decompresses from the heat.

Well, everything is going good in this house. My older dog has not tried to shred the newer ones.... That's funny because he's grumpy but he's not horrid. Typo (bless her spirit) hated dogs. Mozart just tells them when they can play and they listen.

It's so fun to walk out of the room and have three dogs following me. Sherlock has whacked into everything. I'm really nervous about taking him to the commune because that's a lot of people and pets. I think he'll be okay as long as he knows where I'm at. I'm going to start backpack training him so we can take Watson and Mozart and him to outdoor events with us.

Nuts! I just locked myself out of Tubi by putting Tubi-Kids on play for the dogs. They are reactive to every sound in this complex so the cartoons keep them quiet. I put it on to go to the puzzle exchange and now I'm locked from regular Tubi! Tubi with all the movies I love watching!! I hope we know our password.

Writing Update

B.L. I'm still editing chapter 4. Most of these chapters are a mess because I wrote them in a flurry of inspiration, but now they need to be cleaned up. Naughty words need to be mostly edited out because one of my characters might have too much of a potty mouth. I think I might change their ages about four more years to make them older. Plus I feel like the story might be pretty gritty and dark.

Area 51, Desert Mailbox and Writing

I've been watching a lot of conspiracy television. It reminds me so much of Jeffrey. I think I should tell him to check it out on Tubi which is free out here in USA. I'm not sure if its a free service anywhere else, but I freaking LOVE how many movies pop up on it.

I would seriously set my vacation schedules to fit into some of these crazy sites mentioned in the docu-series. I do want to see Area 51. I also want to see that mailbox in the middle of nowhere.... literally this is a mailbox in the desert. Can I put a letter in it with a stamp? Will a stranger find it? Would I open myself up for Men in Black to come knocking on my door?

Why is our planet so awesome? So many questions!

Why do I believe all this stuff? Because I was raised to believe it.

I always caught my dad staring at the sky. I asked him why he did this every night and he said he was watching for UFOs. Once, he moved into the desert and said that's what he did at night, just waiting.....

There are all these tiny little dead bugs on our porch. I can't tell where they are coming from. They look like popcorn. We've been here for almost five years and never had all these little guys on our porch, so why now? What are they? Maybe it's the heat? Global warming?

My nieces and nephews have started school again.

We're still trying to plan our vacation to Arizona. We're going to check out the Grand Canyon and then we're doing a kayak wine tour. We have a concert in the middle of the week and then we're heading to to the other side of the state for more adventures. We just haven't planned everything yet. We need so much sunscreen. My best friend wants to do some hiking. We're going to need to find the camelback for our water.

Speaking of hiking, we're going to get a doggie backpack for Sherlock. He's going to need something so I can take them out in public. Being blind, he's really freaked out when there are a lot of people walking around him or too much open space. I'll be the one wearing the backpack because he's my shadow. He's pretty much attached to my hip.

I was editing videos and he actually went back to bed with Watson. That was pretty funny to find them sleeping in bed without me.

Writing:

B.L. Working on chapter 4 now. So much to edit but at least I have the first draft pretty much done. I'm guessing this might be a long story. I don't know how popular it will be. Omega/Alpha possessive behavior. Talks about omega trafficking. Black market underground. So we'll see if this gets any hits. I'm excited for this one but it needs some work because I still need to fix some things.

Kraken, Weightloss and Writing

I did something completely impulsive. I found myself two dogs from the pound. They were abandoned in a hoarder house so they are both starved for attention. I should have named one Kraken because he is utterly insane when food is involved. Plus, it's kind of fun to say, "Release the Kraken" when he comes around.

I was telling Ann about this and she said she had no idea what a "Kraken" is. I didn't realize that it must have been the media I consume because I've heard the Kraken in so many things. It's a gaint squid like creature that wraps its body around ships and rips them apart. I believe the Kraken is in tons of modern movies too. I should look....

I did name them Sherlock (the blind one) and Watson. We've been working on potty training and sitting on command. Watson is good with sitting. Sherlock is good with going outside to potty. I think we should train Watson to run a dog course. He seems pretty damn smart and eager to play. Sherlock is resource guarding and apparently I've become a "resource" because he does act pretty insane when I sit on the couch. I keep standing until the behavior is settled. I'm getting so many steps on my walk meter.

We're going to take them to Venture Street to see if we can get them used to the public. I need to get a leash that says, "blind" for Sherlock. I want to train him to sit in a stroller so we can take them out to eat with us at night.

The doctor wanted me to lose 5-10 lbs. I've gained 5 extra pounds since then. Lately, with running around these dogs, I've managed to lose the 5 I gained and another 5 lbs. I should finally be able to fit into all my cute dresses now.

Writing Update:

B.L. I need to rename this story. The original chapters were almost 6,000 words long, but a quick internet search says this might be too long for each chapter, so I'm cutting it down to about 2,500 words per chapter. I feel like this is really short. I'm now working on chapter 3 on the editing. I'm really glad I have so much done on this, but it needs so much work. I sort of information dumped on many of these chapters. Cleaning that up. Also, this was super kinky. Cleaning that up too. This feels like a drama.

Friendly Wrong Number, Artistic Folks and Writing

Wrong number contacted me for a complete seafood dinner. I wrote back, "vegan dude, but have fun." I did not expect wrong number to contact me again to see if I'd want to go out for coffee. I was still pretty sure it was a troll at this point so I asked where I'd be driving. The person is in the same state as me.

She also is super ambitious and creative. My energy attracts artistic people. So we've been talking and that's pretty fun. I have no idea where this is going. Will she come into my life and teach me a personal lesson (good or bad). Is she going to stick around and become a close friend? She is about twelve years younger than me.

I didn't think I was learning my German very well, but I am recognizing words. I probably still don't pronounce my words right.

I just cleaned bags and bags of clothes from my closet. I'm going to try to be more mindful on what I am buying. I want to do a "shopping" ban for the next month, but I have inherited an espresso machine and I do need those tiny cups to fit under the machine. I kind of want to see what the thrift stores are selling. I know I kept seeing cute little cups at Goodwill, but I didn't need them at that time.

As I say this, I have just ran to 3 Dollar Tree Stores to find the Golden Girls lip glosses. I only found 3. I needed 6 for my party. I found water painting paper for my local artist and I found a bunch of stuff for myself.

Writing Update:

What am I doing? I have no idea! I found a story I started that's really pretty freaking long and I think I'm going to start working on it too. I have more and more projects and nothing to really show as of yet.

Autumn, Theater Shows and Writing

This must be getting close to my season.... Autumn!

I asked the High Priestess why am I more mentally busy at this time of year. I'm more dedicated to projects. I'm even finding new projects to focus on. Her answer, "We work hard in autumn to prepare for winter."

She's so brilliant! That's so true. I work doubly hard during this time of year. I have three new writing projects. I'm finally downsizing what I own. I'm learning German and Spanish. I'm writing everyone on my contact list. I'm listening to three books! Busy!

In Winter, I will slow. I have no plans beyond visiting with the Coven and even that isn't set in stone.

I plan to do a touristy thing in Arizona. There are a lot of places on my hit list that I'm just not sure I'd ever make time for so I'm making time now. I still need to plan that trip.

Jeffery got staples in his head. He got them out on Friday. I bet he has a gnarly scar.

Darlene is going to Arizona to visit the commune there. I think they're going to take everything that needs to go out so I need to get my clothes ready for them to take to Ann's church.

It's been a busy and yet slow week for me. Sue is going to go see Full Monty at the theater. I saw it advertised and I think it is going to be so good. She's going to tell me all about it. She's going to see two more shows there too and asked if I wanted tickets, but in truth, I am so busy these next handful of months. Events are coming through for August-October and I need to pick!

Oh! There is a Survival Horror Camp coming to Southern California. 12 hours of trying to survive campy horror! Sounds so good. Sue said "Heck no! Have fun." Okay, "heck" was NOT the word she used, but it is close enough to what she really said, minus the fact that this four letter word actually started with an F.

Anyways, I really want to see what it's going to cost to do. It starts at night and I'm not much of a night person any more, but I'll just drink a lot of coffee I guess. Last time we went to Universal Horror Nights, being on our feet for hours was so hard.

Writing Update:

Yule Horror: I'm looking up LGBTQ publishers for this one. I don't think I can tell it in 2,000 words. I'm going for a Babadook feel where the person is actually dealing with the horror that comes from their own demons. I'm extremely positive I can do justice for this story.

2 horror novels: Can't talk about these two yet. I'm hoping to get them started shortly.

K.B.C. Might change the name to this depending. I'm on chapter 7 now and it's okay but I see where there is some weakness. This is just the bones.

Reading Lists, Crime Clean-Up and Writing

Watching: Houdini & Doyle

Drinking: Chocolate Flavored Coffee

Feeling: Untethered

Losing things is so difficult to deal with. I'm trying to let go of the things I've collected and with it, the strange binding ropes that keep me on a muddle-minded path. I don't want those holds, but who realized it would come from a few childish items I've kept from childhood.

This little dancing ballerina.... I had it forever, but where did it come from? What was her story?

My story? I was a really sick child so I don't remember much outside of hospitals.

I do remember my room. My mom has been such a good "keeper" and has kept everything from my youth. But I wonder if it keeps me tied to that sick child? And would letting it go free me or will my identity still be a shadow of my youth? Will all my decisions be safe because I was hardly safe from an ill fate if science hadn't stepped in with such new medications....

Instagram is frustrating. It keeps suggesting books that I know I need to experience for myself. Books are so much cheaper than the decadent chocolates I long to buy. However, I now have over 300 books on my TBR list. Ann told me to put these books on while I clean. I would rather sit and listen to the books in stillness.

I just finished C.S. Lewis book on grief. I can see why he's wildly read. He has a way with expressing thought/feeling in such a beautiful way that actually touched my mind and heart.

Someone mentioned that cleaning can be fun if you pretend you are cleaning up a crime scene. I thought that was hilarious, but it's actually helped me find spots that I never would have noticed before. Our place is starting to look like the day we moved in. There isn't much I can do with the white carpet though. We have rugs, but after 5 years, there are spots.

There is a horror museum that will open in August out here in California and I think it's full of iconic horror movies. I want to go so badly so I'm going to have to see what our schedule looks like. I told Sue about it, but Sue said "heck no" ..... okay, maybe "heck" wasn't the word she used. She really hates horror and I learned that the hard way, with a very strong punch to my arm. I'm surprised she even went to a haunted corn maze with us.

Writing Update:

D.P. I have decided what my two alphas look like. There is so much heat between the two of them and its the wrong energy. I wanted tension, but this might be too much tension. I feel exhausted by it. Kissing and making up won't work. I need to keep writing until I can figure this out.

K.B.C. I finally got my demon clean and boy is he a cutie.... I think. 😂 My anti-hero thinks so too. I finally at Chapter 5 finally got a few hints on my anti-hero's background. I think editing will make everything so much cleaner. I'm really trying not to judge here. I have this story in one point of view, but I'm thinking I should make it two? Not sure yet, but I'm on Chapter 5 of this first draft.

Spiritual Journey, Boundaries and Writing

Watching: The Fuzzies

Drinking: Peach/Ginger Iced Tea

Feeling: 70's Disco

I've been listening to a lot of self-help books; downsizing, grieving, letting go....

I want to study life and people and self.

I also want to learn how to live in stillness. It feels like I have been fighting against the tides and it also feels like I drown in them. There are things we don't talk about.... Things I don't talk about.

I have a wild garden. I'm not responsible for any of the plants. They exist and I give them time and space, but I'm lucky if they respond to me. I must apologize to the few that will not respond. Maybe I'm pushing my existence and my insecurities on these few and they have set boundaries. Of course, I can't see these boundaries, but I believe their silence is proof that boundaries are there.

I am lucky that in this existence, I have found a sort of peace. I am co-existing on this journey with a few close mates. There is one mate that I believe I might have an unhealthy attachment towards. When their journey ends, it will be difficult letting go. How do you let someone go that you want to swallow whole because as long as they are inside you, you can protect them?

I told the High Priestess that I want to go on a spiritual journey. She wants to bring the coven home for keeps. She has already planned the commune and I have been looking at DIYs for the gardens we're keeping. I find peace here, but I don't want to be completely comfortable. I know that all journey's end and I don't want to be trapped because I'm too afraid to move to the next stage. I don't want to be a ghost haunting the graveyard because I couldn't find my way to Summerland.

Sue is in Arizona. I hear the weather is 110 degrees or more. Sue and Ann went to a kitty rescue and donated a bunch of sheets and towels.

I went to the pound to look for a new best friend. There were so many dogs that I wanted to take home but they all have holds on them. I am so bummed.

Writing Update:

P.C. I've gone back to look at this story. I originally wrote it as a novella, but I think there is a lot of room for more story to be explored. I'm doing a heavy rewrite on this project because I wrote some people into it that I'd like to write out of the story. I think my ghosts are better at haunting my mind and not my pages.

D.P. I have two alphas who really hate each other and weirdly it's starting to look at enemies to lovers which can't happen! But the words that slide from my head to my fingers is coasting very close to forbidden territory. I need to write this first draft so I know what needs immediate attention. Still on chapter 3.

Big Bear for July 4th, Magic within Tea and Writing

I've been working on my loose leaf tea shelf. I have more tea then a person needs, but there is something magical in boiling hot water and pouring it over tea leaves. My mom knew someone that could read tea leaf futures. The woman gave mom her special tea set to do it herself. Now there is me! I don't know how futures are read with loose leaf tea, but I love to think about my future as I do my little rituals.

Sue suggested that I look at this website where prisoners train dogs for adoption. Honestly, the prices for these dogs are almost $300 less than what other places are asking. As someone who doesn't have much money, I am willing to do this for a new best friend.

I got a chance to finally see Big Bear. The road up there is so incredible winding. I'd be afraid to do this with snow. My hotel was right across the street from this little Bar and Grill type place that played live music. There is no cover charge, so I went in and sat down and got drinks and listened to music. Oh, and I took Mozart.

Later, I saw the Village area and that was so fun. I bought more things than I needed too. One thing I got for Mozart was extremely expensive, but he hadn't been really wanting to eat, so I think splurging on a snack isn't too bad. I had to hold him a lot! People walked by laughing because Mozart just falls asleep and I was rocking him. I guess instincts, right?

I think most of my photos this weekend were of Mozart. I can't find one photo of just something extremely random. I also took tons of photos for people who needed someone to take a photo for them. I love taking photos so I was in my happy place.

The place I stayed at was okay. I might would stay again just because it was so close to everything, but there are so many places to see out here in California so I don't know if I'd go back to Big Bear soon.

I bought two monster shirts: Michael Myers playing soccer and then one with Jason playing soccer. I don't really watch soccer any more so I don't know if these are good teams. Michael Myers is wearing a Brasil shirt and I can't tell who Jason is playing for. Steven said Brasil is a great team so yeah! I'm going to have to start watching soccer again.

I went into a New Age shop but they didn't have what I was looking for. I did find a shop that mixed scents so I went in and got this scent that makes me happy. It's "birthday cake/almond oil" mix and it smells so wonderful. Really just makes my spirit purr.

Writing Update:

K.B.C. This monster needs chains! So I wrote some chains into the story. Also realized, I need to work on the fight scene. There isn't enough blood and ripped body parts.

Oh! I just got a super cool idea for a story. Can't really discuss it yet. But I need to write it down, because my last great idea I had about video stores sort of slid straight out of my head. That'll teach me about writing my ideas down as soon as I have them.

Girl Friends, Costumes and Writing

Sue came over and helped me sort through all my costumes. I don't really dress up for Halloween. That ship has sailed, but I did keep something for the Renaissance Fair. I also kept a beautiful mask in case I ever get to Mardi Gras. I hear Mardi Gras can be really disgusting because people get so drunk and vomit in the street, so "wear shoes that can be tossed."

I have rekindled my female relationships. My favorite bartender said she's up for just about anything. I keep finding the coolest little things out in Arizona to do. Now she is a bit of a recluse like me, so I'm going to try for something on the quiet side. Maybe a paint night? Or a craft night.

I have a nurse that said she would take me out paddleboarding. I have no balance, but I think that would be such a cool thing to do. So yep! She's my adventure buddy. I think hiking, camping, paddleboarding and maybe bike rides with her.

I have a girl friend who said she would do anything DIY with me. I want to try the new plushie taxidermy.... No folks, no REAL animals involved on this one. You take a plush toy and cut the head off and glue it to a really pretty board and make it all fancy. It's a little creepy but for a date night, it might be right up some of us Goth chicks lane. She also loves Dinosaurs and I just found a super cool event in Arizona that I want to go to so I'm taking her with me. I hope she doesn't mind that I'll be a little childish....

The High Priestess and I are travelers. She took me to her favorite spoke in Sedona and it was NOT disappointing! We wrote so much and had such a great time. I can't wait to do more trips with her.

My mom always says, "Find really good female friends to do things with."

So back to my downsizing. I just got 5 bags of clothes/costumes out of the room. I threw 3 bags of trash out  of the apartment. Our place is looking really good. I'm glad that I'm finally doing this. I don't know where I really want to head to next. Maybe Oregon?

Writing Update:

I posted two chapters up online. A chapter on one and a chapter on another. I'm getting really good reviews. I can't believe how far I've come. One story is almost done. I think maybe another couple of chapters and I can put that baby to rest. The other one might have another 20 chapters to go. I really hate leaving things unfinished.

K.B.C. I'm trying to get these two main characters into a bath house together.... I wish I could just jump to that part, but I'm dragging my feet and I think I'm really scared. I have rewritten these four chapters over and over. If I get to the bath house scene, then I'm going to have to move forward and it's blank up in my skull.

D.P. I have three point of views on this one. Two alpha point of views and the third is my alpha turned omega. I am really impressed with how well this is coming out. I have two super aggressive, possessive alphas that I'm a little unsure how to balance because they are constantly at each other's throats. The thing is, one made a snide comment and just rereading, it almost feels extremely personal. I didn't mean for it to be as personal as it was, so now I'm wondering, "do I work this in, or do I cut it out?"

Hospital of Emotions, High Priestess Commune and Writing

Hospital of Emotions was amazing. I kept getting advertisements and I kept passing them as quickly as possible because I wanted the experience of not knowing what to expect. I was NOT disappointed. These artists really captured the moods they were trying to convey. Some of those rooms really just cut straight to the heart strings while others were whismy and playful.

Every room was fantastic. Each artist left a story.

The one room that really drew me in because (maybe) it's something a little personal to me, was the room where you can wear headphones and listen to someone going through a seizure. You're looking at the art and listening. The feeling is still lingering even as the fine details of the room starts to fade and blend with my every day. I keep recalling. Keep going back, but it's only a memory....

We went out for Mexican food and drinks, afterwards. It's nice that everything is within walking distance so if you want to have drinks, you can just walk home.

I'm downsizing. It hurts. So many great memories to try and squeeze into a box. The Priestess and I have been talking about making a commune. That would be so nice. Work all day and at night sit on the porch and watch the sunset. I found an old church that's pretty reasonable. Eight rooms so eight of us have space.

Oh speaking of places to move; the house old Jeepers Creepers house burnt down. I told this artist that I had a room for her to paint and she said NOPE on that. I thought her reaction was so funny. Honestly though, she said that movie scared her so badly and she wants nothing to do with that old school house.

I have just discovered that all my teas taste fantastic cold! I like to think I'm tasting something that the faeries enjoy. Faeries probably enjoy tea a lot considering it's brewed from plants. How more fae can you get?

Writing Update:

K.B.C. I have my werewolf and my faerie walking out of battle and I'm not sure who is crazier. Would my fae be the crazy one? The romance might be stirring to soon. I want to note that in this chapter my werewolf has surprised me.

D.P. This is wonderful! I love the pacing now on this. I have the chapter starting with my omega and ending with one of the two alphas that are going to be the main love interest. However, I am so excited that they actually already know each other and they might not like each other. I do need to clean up the conversation a little because it does touch ever so slightly on something I'm not too sure about.

Tourist Season, Wine Tastings and Writing

We had the best weekend! We took Mozart to Solvang and I went to my favorite tasting room and bought two bottles of red and Sue bought me this horror icon bookbag that says, "I'd Kill for Coffee" which is absolutely perfect! The Scream Mask is gaining some traction in popularity and I'm here for it!

I managed to take many photos for the tourists who needed an extra hand with group photos, which is one of my favorite things too do. I love tourists and seeing the world through their eyes. Maybe because I haven't really been to many new places, so to see the same location through someone else's eyes makes it new again.

That said! Everything was in bloom.

We had lunch and then went to another winery. We were going to bring our expert some chocolate, but found out that she doesn't work weekends any more. So boo! Sue thinks she'll cancel that membership now because she doesn't like driving it. Two tasting and then Sue got a glass of wine at both places that she didn't want to drink so I was feeling pretty darn good drinking it for her. Not drunk, just humming with a buzz.

We're thinking about going to Big Bear for a few days. I'm excited about that because I've never been and it's going to be so pretty. Can't decide if this is something we should take Mozart to. It would be nice to walk the trails with him. It's not like he knows he's 15 and should be slowing down. He's blissfully unaware of how he's aged.

My favorite Bartender went out for the weekend too and she tasted oils for the first time. She had such a good time that she said she picked up oils for everyone at the commune.... me included! Goddess, what an incredibly wonderful gift. She's a lot like me. We're only 4 months apart. I'm the oldest. She looked stunning for her outting. I can't exactly describe her, she's just so classic.

Writing Update:

I'm now staring at blank pages for both K.B.C. and D.P.

I don't think I wrote myself into a corner, but this is really hard. I have chapters to push through on so I've gone to a few that I've probably been neglecting like N.F. and V.C.

That said, I'm really going to sit down this week and get more done!

Beach Home, Candy Shops and Writing

We went to Venture for the weekend. The commune told us to go out on the water, but we ended up going to Main and spending the entire day with Mozart in his little buggy. We met a couple who had a little poodle and we talked for while. They volunteer for most of the events up there and said that the Winter Wine Fest is really fun. I think we're going to have to go!

We love that beach house because it looks out on the water. It's really peaceful and everything is gorgeous.

I did spend the day with Sue as well. She loves this little candy store and I sort of really like it too. I got two rootbeers, knowing that the place is a little pricy, but when we looked up the price of a pack.... $44.99 for one brand and $34.99 for the other. Yep, I guess I can afford to splurge on 1 rootbeer at a time on occassion, but I can't buy a pack of these rootbeers.

We went into a refill shop and I got the bars of shampoo and conditioner. I really like these a lot. Ann said that she likes liquid shampoo, and I was a huge believer in the liquid too, but I can't get enough liquid no matter what to sud in my hair. The bars do sud so I like them a little better. Plus it's less waste because you get the bars in a little paper baggy.

We came back home after our adventure and I thought it would be another long week, but Steven got the house he was looking at and is starting his own commune. And my favorite bartender said she would meet us at the Olive Oil tasting room in Arizona when we come back out. I managed to get a few more people to agree to it. I hope we can do this as a group. I really love Olive Oil taste rooms.

I just finished a audio book! Freaking loved the story so much! I usually only listen to a story for about an one hour a day so I can continue with the things I need to do, like write. Nope! I didn't do anything for 9 hours straight just listening to this story. Honestly, people called all day and I had to keep pausing, but I got through the story and it was amazing.

Now I'm looking for another story and everything has a long wait list. I think I found something though.

I tried listening to tarot history and how to read my cards that I have. I had one book that was excellent, but the next two books were a little too whimsy. I do like the idea behind what the two books were getting at, but it just also wasn't really me. I wanted to hear about each card, the symbolism and the breathtaking art. So back to the drawing board on what I can find.

Writing Update:

D.P. I've been working a lot on this one story. I'm still at chapter two / draft three but I really like where this is going. I like the history behind the characters. I need a nickname for a character who was a grubby little kid and now he's an adult, but his nickname might have stuck.... What can I name him though?

K.B.C.  I have a plan, but I'm also a little chaotic and unorganized so those plans may change as I go.

Beers, Swimsuits and Writing

We got up early to drive to Arizona.

By the time we got there, Ann was getting ready to show some houses to Steven and Blanche. They invited us along and Emory loves looking at homes so he said yes. The houses all had wonderful kitchens which really excites him. Plus we have a LOT of kitchen things.

The trip was so much fun. We went to the Scottsdale commune and boy, everyone was there! My favorite bartender showed up with her boyfriend. She made a vegan version of the cowboy caviar, which everyone kept grabbing.  She made food for everyone's tastes. One of the people present was about to have a birthday so she had made a really delicious pie too, but it went so fast.

It was HOT in Arizona. We brought our swimsuits, but we were running the whole time, so we didn't get a chance to swim. Emory had a lot of beers and I had two bottles of wine, but not in the same day, lol. We had a little wine here and there and only at night when we were sleeping over.

I think this might be Mozart's last trip to Arizona. I think all that excitement is getting too much for him. Emory says he wants to be buried with all our dogs. I told him that would probably be about 30 lbs of dust, but he is okay with it. We really love our fur babies.

On our way back to California, we stopped and got date shakes. I was going to get vanilla so I could share a few licks with Mozart, but then I remembered how delicious the coffee date shake tasted so no sharing with Mozart. He did get a lot of treats though. and he wanted to sit in my lap so it was a little crowded, but not too bad.

I got tickets to the art show at Hospital of Emotions. We're going in the middle of June, so I'm so excited about that. Who would have thought I'd walk straight into a hospital without a struggle, but I really want to see this show. I hear that each room is decorated by an artist, but that the rooms are exactly as they'd been left at this abandoned hospital. I would like some history on the hospital itself and then each artist. I'm so excited.

Sue and I went for dinner at our favorite restaurant. It was nice to show her pictures of my weekend in Arizona. I saw most of my nieces and nephews so I'm pretty happy. I saw my neighbor who went to my standup and he took a reserved sign from his table! I love it! He's awesome. I am so happy I got to see him for a hot minute.

I'm not kidding. We went to 5 homes, two of which were communes. It's nice feeling so much love.

Writing Update:

K.B.C. : I'm at chapter 3 on this rewrite. I really like that it's from one point of view now. It just feels right this way. I do think that my main character will have more moments that will be a surprise to him and the audience. I'm having a good time writing this story.

Morning Rummage Sales, Goddess Dress and Writing

I didn't expect to see rummage sales this early in the morning, but I stopped at a sign that said 40+ homes were participating in this yard sale. I came back at 8am when they were actually supposed to start, and I had the BEST time ever!

For $3.00 I bought a see-through purse for the events that are out here that require see-through purses. I bought 3 puzzles for $1.00 each. I bought Ann some glass watering bulbs. Apparently, I say the word "bulbs" weirdly because she had no idea what I bought when I told her. She might be right, because I called Sue and told her what I bought, and she suggested I buy fake plants to put in them. It took me a little bit to realize that neither of them understood what I said.

This woman wanted to sell me this BEAUTIFUL dress that would be perfect as a fairy princess at a bookcon or fairycon. I wanted it so badly, but it wasn't my size. The woman who was selling it had the body of a goddess, and I'm more like the sidekick in this scenario. She'd say something like, "Hand me my sword." And I'd say something like, "Oops! I forgot it." So, long story short, I skipped the dress.

I bought a bunch of smaller things, too, that I probably didn't need. I bought a brand new drink canister. Didn't need another one, but yep, that's what I did. I also bought utterly gorgeous earrings and a pill container for the mister.

I went out for lunch with Sue, and that was relaxing. We bought some sunblock with zinc. She gave me her pet stroller for Mozart. The commune is going out of town, so they invited us to visit the Oxnard house, and that's really close to the beach and to downtown Ventura. We can put Mozart in the stroller and walk him through town. What a cute idea!

Mozart's problem is progressing. He still loves food, so it's not time to let him cross the rainbow bridge. He still likes his walks, though they are slow. We're going to try to get him out for the weekend in the stroller.

Oh, we are heading to the Arizona commune for a few days. Lots of communes to visit. My favorite bartender will be showing up at the Scottsdale Commune. I think that will be fun! She wants to introduce her boyfriend. I think this might be serious. She's freaking adorable.

I've finally chosen a tarot deck that I want to do my public readings on. I am trying to get familiar with the art and the stories behind each card. This deck has a story that I'll never fully understand, like who put holes in the 7 of the cards? Why are there holes in these cards? So many secrets.

Writing Update:

D.P. I'm working on chapter one again and BAM!!! one sentence changed everything! I'm so excited to see where this story is going to go. I'm also back to wondering if I should put any other Point-of-View in this. I am a little rough when it comes to writing romance, though I find romance to be exciting. I feel it in my gut when I'm writing a scene that turns romantic.

Quiet Walks, Friendly Strangers and Writing

Mozart and I decided to enjoy the nice weather, so we went for a stroll. At his age, we aren't really running anymore, but if he wants to walk, I let him. I have a real hard time telling him no.

We ran into a young man who is 28 years old. I'm a bit standoffish with new people. I am a recluse for a reason, and I enjoy my inner circle, but with new people, you just have to accept what they come with, and you have no idea what energy that is going to be. This young man was super pleasant.

He couldn't believe Mozart was 15 years old. He also couldn't believe Mozart loves everyone, including children. He said, "Children pet dogs too hard," and I said, "Mozart puts up with it. He'll lie down and let them pet him as long as they want." Heck, I even have pictures of children lifting him, and he'll just dangle in their arms and not try to escape. We do try to discourage him from dangling, though.

We talked a while. He's lonely. I get it. I would be extremely lonely, too, if I didn't have Mozart. He has his parents, but he wants mutual friends. I explained my age, and he said he couldn't tell. 😂 My friend! I am almost 2x your age! I'm old enough to have a child close to your age.

He goes to a Boba shop down the street to see who is there to talk with. I didn't think of that. Too bad there aren't meet and greets like speed dating, but with friends. Maybe I should look that up to make sure there aren't.

I told Emory about my adventure, and we laughed. I don't think I'm extremely outgoing, but my aura must be bright because I do meet a lot of people when I'm just walking. I never approach people first, unless they have dogs.... Holy Moly! I think I just found why people talk to me! 😂

I'm looking at rescues because I want two more dogs. Not right now, because Mozart needs a lot of love and attention. Plus, I don't think he needs a lot of stimulation. We're trying to keep our lives quiet right now. I swore to the person who gave him to us that I would treat him like my baby. I think I held true to my word. They didn't give a flying hoot, though, because they were going to drop him off at a kill shelter on that Monday, and I saw him on a Saturday. They just gave him with no money exchange. They wanted him gone.

Writing Update:

I renamed all my stories and I'm really feeling it. So the stories that only had place holders now have names. The stories that had names felt wrong so I renamed those ones. This is probably not what I should have spent my hour doing, but it was one of those things that's been nagging me so I gave in.

KBC: I had two point of views, but I think this might be better told by one person. I am going to lose a super cool scene where my MC fairy does a favor for my MC werewolf, and its from my fairy's point of view.

Evil Squirrels, Needlessly Shopping and Writing

We have a neighbor who feeds the squirrels when she takes her dog on a walk. I personally do NOT like squirrels, and that goes back to having to deal with them when I worked at SeaWorld. They are so aggressive, and their little claws hurt when they scratch at your legs to get your attention. They nip, too, if you ignore them.

Education Department at SeaWorld

Anyways, I've noticed that when I walk Mozart, there are squirrels that approach us, and I'm so worried they'll try and attack Mozart. In the last couple of years, I don't remember them being this brave. They might be small, but that doesn't stop them from approaching!

I just went to Dollar Tree and had a great time finding things that I was looking for. I almost didn't grab the makeup cleaner tray, but for $1.25, why not? I've never tried it before, but it's supposed to clean your brushes better than what I've been doing. I also got this pen for my eyebrows, and I didn't know how it worked, so I was playing with it.... Yeah, now I look like Groucho Marx. I didn't expect it to be so dark and um.... so PAINTED.

I found the little tiny soap sheets that go into your purse. I bought 6 for my Galentine Day party. I also bought 6 little body scrubs for the shower. I should probably stop buying things for the party. I really want this to be fun for everyone. I bought clips for my hair that reminded me of my teens. I also bought a few makeup items. I'm really trying not to keep buying lipstick and gloss. I have so much, but I can't seem to stop myself.

We went to the grocery store for stir-fry items. I found the sale rack and ended up buying so much more stuff. I found a bath bomb as an offering to the High Priestess. I think she'll like it. She loves bath bombs. I also got 2 bags of coffee for $5.50. That is a really good price because everything is so expensive now. I bought something for Mr. Mozart that has peanut butter inside it. I bought 2 bags of Giggles, which is my absolute favorite candy. YumEarth has pretty good candy.

I've been studying Spanish and the tarot. Not the same subject. 😂

Writing Update:

D.P. : I finally named my alpha turned omega story. I think the name fits, but we'll see if it stays this way. Also, I got to chapter 8 and realized that, where the story is going, I need to change all the previously written chapters. I'm now on chapter 1 again. Also, I'm doing this from one point of view instead of three. I believe I had about 24,000 words written. Now, starting from the beginning, I only have 2,083 words written. I think though, that having 1 point of view might be better. I might have been skirting over the details too much to fit in 3 point of views. Still feel like this might be romantic.... I don't know.

S.H. : I want to change the name of this and use the words S.H. as the series title. Also, rewriting this from 1 person's point of view instead of having the back and forth. Also, I really barely touched on the ugliness of this world, so I need to go back and really not shy away from the details. I need to think "how far can I make this go" without it being terribly gruesome. It's supposed to be romantic.

Puzzle Exchanges, EEG Hats and Writing

May the 4th be with you! Yes, I like to celebrate with comic books and see who is dressed up for photos!

I finally got all the puzzles from the trade organized. I opened them up to make sure they were in bags. It was 50/50, but I have tons of gallon bags to put the puzzle pieces into. This makes traveling with them so much easier. I think we received about 50+, and I'm keeping all the Halloween ones, though some of them look super hard.

I had to wear EEG electrodes on my head for three days to see if there was anything wrong with my brain patterns. Something is causing me to faint, and it's not pretty. I feel sick for hours, a little confused, etc... People keep saying I'm having seizures, but the doctors keep saying nothing is wrong. I have a mystery illness, I guess.

Last time I fainted (March) I scraped my toes pretty badly. It looked a little like a crime scene with all that beautiful blood everywhere! It took weeks for that to heal, but it's not the worst I've done. I have hit my head pretty hard a few times, but not this time. Any suggestions on what else I could explore?

Honestly, I could NOT wait to wash my head. The last three days made me feel icky. I stood under the stream and scrubbed and scrubbed. My hair still doesn't feel normal. It feels like plastic or something. I will just wash my hair over and over until it feels normal again.

Oh! I went to a church sale and bought myself three shirts that I definitely didn't need. One had Betty Boop on it in a cowboy hat, another was a Grinch sweatshirt, and another (the third) was a Stitch shirt. The Stitch shirt reminded me of my niece, so I just had to grab it, but it's large. I still need to wash it before I try it on to see if it fits. I always wash the clothes that I get secondhand. I didn't realize there were so many skin diseases that are easily transmissible.

I also got a beaded tumbler that has little strawberries all over it and a game that had never been opened. I already washed the tumbler, so I'm ready to use it for the summer. I don't know everything I'll be up to. Everyone keeps wishing me a happy weekend, and I have no plans. I want to shop and see if there is anything to add to my goodie bags for Galentine's Day. Ann said I probably already have enough, but I want to make each bag about $10.00 worth of goodies, though I'm only asking everyone to spend about $5.00 per person on the trade.

I used to throw epic parties. This will be fun to do again.

Writing Update:

S.H. I've decided this will need to be renamed. I'm at chapter 3 and trying to cut the 5,000+ word document to under 4,000 words (give or take). It's not working. I have so many details to add and I have subtracted long ass paragraphs that were info dumping. I didn't realize I wrote like this back in my early 20's. I had so much to learn back then, but I grew into my own. I love what I've created. I just need to not shy away from truly horrifying and gruesome story notes! I want horror with a bit of romance, I should really dive into it.

Hello Fears, Commune Walks and Writing

I found a book at the little freebie library called "The Hello Fears Challenge" by Michelle Poler. It's a 100-Day Journal for self-discovery. I thought this was pretty cool, and someone had already written on the first couple of pages. It feels a little voyeuristic to see their answers.... their fears. They wrote something extremely intimate on the pages that breaks my heart. I wonder who they are. I wish I could comfort them.

What do you say to someone whose inner demons are so loud that they can't hear anything beyond it? How do you comfort them? Would they even hear what you had to say, or would it be like a sandcastle too close to the shore? The waves sweep in, and suddenly, all that work is just gone?

I just want this specific person to know that I read your words. I heard you. I hope you are well. I pray the book was placed in the box because you realized that you are worthy of good things, and I hope you choose yourself every time. I hope you walked away from what has stopped serving you as a higher being.

I'm borrowing a really beautiful scarf from Sue. We went walking in the hills by the commune, and I was exhausted. She's doing this every day and offered to have me come up to walk with her, but man, I was dragging my feet by the time we were barely up hill, and when the sun goes down.... call it superstitious, but I sort of want to be inside. She showed me the spot called "the coyote run," which is a path the coyotes move through. It's dark on that path and so covered with trees that you can't see far into the space.

I had a chance to pet so many dogs on our walk. Of course, they were all friendly. She remembers the names of every single dog and which ones are polite and which ones you shouldn't pet. It was a pretty cool little night. I did laundry at the commune because it costs so much money to do laundry here at our apartment.

The commune is talking about breaking up and moving off. Darlene wants to head out of state, but she's still trying to figure out where exactly to go. She's thinking about Florida, and having lived in Florida myself, I told her she needs to be there in the summer because when Jeffrey came to visit us, he had a really hard time with the heat. I don't think they would have as bad a time, but they should be aware that it's so muggy that it feels like you're in a sauna 24/7 during the summer. The storms are pretty cool, though.

Darlene and Mr. M are on a huge yacht right now in Santa Barbara. Mr. M sent a picture of a seal on the edge of his yacht. It's crazy! The seal looks as big as a beluga whale. I wonder if it weighs as much?

I think that if everyone leaves California.... I don't know if I'd stay, either. It's so expensive here. The Arizona commune is asking us to sell our things and move back in. Last time we were there, it was so much fun. I cooked 12 banana bread pans to feed everyone. That only lasted a few days. We'd all go swimming together. We'd eat together. We took turns cooking. We have someone who knows how to sew, so we often get our clothes fixed. We would go to rummage sales as a group. It was a lot of fun, and then when I moved out, it was almost too quiet.

Writing Update

S.H. I did it. I went back and deleted a few hundred words from chapter 1 that I felt didn't move the story in the direction I wanted. I'm almost done editing chapter 2 as we speak. This story has so much room for details, but the chapters are already pretty long. I have one chapter that's 12,000 words. Yep, I'm going to cut that down into three chapters. I don't want anything longer than 4,000+ at the most. I can't believe I originally posted this story. It has every beginner mistake a person can make. Too much "tell" and not enough "show," which I am slowly fixing. The paragraphs are long with too many ideas that could be cut into different paragraphs. I can see what people said about my writing years ago. It's really a lot of fun going back to this early project and saying, "I see the bones. Time to cut the fat."

B.N.F. I'm frustrated with this. It's a very lean story. It needs more personality. I'm not sure if I should abandon this one. I still need to send this off to my NaNoWriMo mate, who said she wanted to read it. I wanted it to be a little better put together before I sent it to her.... But it really reads like an outline. I think this is the one I stayed up all night to work on while she worked on her NaNoWriMo project. We had snacks. We partied when we started to get too sleepy. We stopped writing long enough to read the very LAST paragraph we worked on every thirty minutes, so a lot of "out of context" reading. It was one of the best nights I've had as a writer. It was a writer retreat of sorts, but in our own fashion.

E.W. I was asked if I ever wrote people I know into my stories.... I got to chapter 6 on this and yep, there it is. I wrote Jeffrey into my book. I don't know if I should tell him, or if I should change the character or if I should leave it in. I stopped reading when I saw him there. I will go back and finish reading. I need to see where exactly I need to change the story, because my last reader said that the ending was a little unbelievable and the fight scene was more like a young adult book. I think I was afraid of writing darker stories back then. I'm not so shy now. I will torture my final girl to hell and back! She can take it. I had this dream of utter violence and I want to incorporate it into the book in Stephen King style. Doesn't he get a lot of ideas from his nightmares too?
